Detaching from an actively drinking alcoholic spouse is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.  After 13 years of heavy drinking, 6 years of separation, and a revolving door of emergency rooms, detox facilities and inpatient programs...along with outpatient and AA programs, I can no longer do this.
